Sunshine Blogger Award | The sun is shining, so I shine as well

Greetings readers!

I was tagged by the amazing Michaela @ Journey Into Books to do this fun tag and answer her excellent questions. I must confess that…I have been tagged to do this award many times but have lost count so I’m sorry to those I’ve missed, but I am starting anew.

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to there post.
  • Answer the 11 questions asked of you.
  • Nominate 11 new bloggers and ask 11 new questions.
  • List the rules and showcase the logo in your post.

Michaela’s Questions

1. What was your last 5 star read and why?

The Dragon of Jin-Sayeng by K.S. Villoso
An absolutely incredible finale to what is one of my favourite series ever. I cannot recommend it enough! This book was a rollercoaster of emotions. Screaming, crying, laughing and my total destruction. I love it.

2. Recommend a book for each season?

Spring: The Penderwicks series by Jeanne Birdsall (So cozy and warm, total new life vibes)
Summer: Somewhere Between Bitter and Sweet by Laekan Zea Kemp (Hot and sweaty and MARVELOUS)
Fall: The Bitch Queen Chronicles by K.S. Villoso (So much chaos, so much emotional destruction)
Winter: Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (A chilling and thrilling horror novel)

3. If you weren’t a reader what do you think you would spend your time doing instead?

I’d probably spend my days doing more art! Even though I get a lot of my artistic inspiration from books, without reading I would definitely spend more time actually making art and refining my skills hehe.

Fan art for The Wolf of Oren-Yaro

4. What book would you love to see turned into a movie or tv show?

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir!!
This needs to be done and it needs to be done NOW! I want this on screen so bad!!

5. Which fictional character would you want to travel the world with?

Nikolai Lanstov. My suave king knows how to have a good time and I want to have a good time with him everywhere!

6. Most anticipated release for this year?

Velvet was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia!
This is an obvious one if you know me! I love everything SMG and I am so lucky to already have an ARC of this book! It comes out in August so have your eyes peeled for it!

Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

7. Why did you decide to start blogging?

I attended a bookish event held by Canada’s biggest book retailer, Indigo, where we basically talked all things books! I met so many bloggers, got some ARCs a stuffed swag pack and well I just knew I wanted to be part of this beyond that night. I started up my blog a few days later and well it’s been a journey ever since!

8. What is your favourite thing about blogging.

I love getting to express myself as a total bookworm! I know there are lots of platforms where I can do that, but on this blog that I created, it just feels extra special! There is no limit to how much or how little I can write! I can add all sorts of fun images, videos and clips. It’s just a space that is so near and dear to my heart and the very first place that published my voice!

9. Is there a specific book or series that made you fall in love with reading?

Hmmm…I would say The Hunger Games, but I think more likely it was Marie Lu’s Legend series. It was the first series I picked up of my own volition (not because it was becoming a movie) and I loved it!! It was the first series that I became obsessed with and am still obsessed with today!

10. Favourite fictional pairing? (Romantic or Platonic)

Oh wow this is such a hard question to answer!!!!!!

But you know what? Cresswell (Cress x Thorne) still owns my heart.

11. What book do you planning on reading next?

I’m in the middle of three reads right now, but I’m planning on picking up The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri next! So excited for this next glorious adult fantasy!

The Jasmine Throne (Burning Kingdoms, #1)

My Questions:

  1. What is your favourite book trope?
  2. Which book brings you the most comfort?
  3. Spill the tea, what is one book you will *never* be picking up?
  4. What song do you associate with a certain book?
  5. Who are your favourite authors?
  6. Which book character would you want to trade lives with?
  7. What is the first book you remember reading?

  9. During what time of the day do you like to read?
  10. What is one non-bookish fun fact about you?
  11. What is your star prediction for your current read?

I tag:

Hehe…I won’t be nominating 11 people, but some bloggers I have loved as of late. As usual there is no pressure to do this and if I didn’t nominate you, you are more than welcome to answer my questions!

Gaby @ Living in Libros

Angele @ A Dominique Reads

That’s it for me folks! Let me know what you think! What would be your answers to some of these questions?

Happy reading!

Lucy in Narnia. Hello! Dream come true. I would stay there forever!

2. Pick one book that you would choose to completely forget? Whether it be to read it again for the first time or because you disliked it.

5. What is your favourite book cover out of the books you own? Make sure you say which edition it is or add a photo as most books have multiple covers

It is so adorable and I think it captures the quirky, funny character that is Anne!

FullSizeRender (9)

6. What’s one item/device you wish you could own from any fictional world?

Cinder’s brain computer thingy. It would make my life sooooo much easier! (And cooler)

Elemental. Controlling all the elements would be awesome!!

On a couch with a comfy blanket and pillows for me to snuggle with!

Kate’s Questions

Green and violet make magic together!

Orange and blue….just does not work for me.

2 Do you have a “to be watched” list? If so, what movie/TV show/anime has been on it the longest?

I do. As of today, Gilmore Girls has been on there for a while. I started it, but I never finished it and my sisters say I will never finish it but I want to prove them wrong. Still…I won’t be finishing it for a while!

3 Do you prefer coffee or tea, or both?

Neither! Though I prefer coffee over tea! Hot Chocolate is the only hot drink I’ll take!

4 What is your favourite genre? Your least favourite?

Favourite is fantasy! Least favourite is paranormal/supernatural…though I have some guilty pleasure reads under those genres!

5 What book/movie/TV show/anime/Webtoon had a 180 twist? Did you like it?

Raging Star (Dust Lands #3)  by Moira Young
The twist had my head aching for days! Did I like it?…yes. Did it go well for the characters?…..When do plot twists ever go well for the characters?

6 Do you have favorite characters who happen to be villains/antagonists?

The Darkling. Come to me my love, *bats eyes*

7 Do you prefer humorous quotes, or inspirational quotes? Can you give an example?

I love funny quotes, but inspirational quotes are words to live by!

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”

~ Marie Lu, Legend

8 Are there any hyped books/movies/TV shows/anime/Webtoons that lived up to the hype?

The Hunger Games, Caraval, Six of Crows, An Ember in the Ashes (but this needs more hype), THE LUNAR CHRONICLES!!!!

9 What is an underrated book/movie/TV show/anime/Webtoon that everyone deserves to know about?

The Penderwicks  by Jeanne Birdsall is a middle grade series, but I promise you it will squish your hearts and you will feel all happy and summer-y!

The Stoker & Holmes series by Colleen Gleason is really good. It involves a steam-punk Victorian era and mystery! And maybe some vampires….maybe.

10 Have you binged any books/TV shows/anime/Webtoons recently?

I binged The Winner’s Trilogy last summer (best decision ever) and I have plans to binge the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas this summer alongside my Lunar Chronicles re-read!

11 (Shameless advertising time!) Please check my post My Latest Binge Worthy Comics. Do any of these look interesting to you?

Ummm yes….these look amazing! Rise from Ashes and My Dear Cold-Blooded King look epic, I must find a way to get my hands on them!

Tag Time?:

I am very lazy at the moment and I also do not feel like coming up with 11 questions so I won’t be tagging anyone at this time!
I’m sorry my loves, in my next award post I will definitely tag some of you!
I promise!

Alright I am finished! Thank you again Liza and Kate for tagging me I really appreciate the both of you. And don’t forget readers to follow their blogs for more bookish posts!

Sunshine Blogger Award Pt 2

Greetings readers!

The saga of catching up on tags and awards continues…

A while back, I was tagged by Kester from LiLbooKlovers for the Sunshine Blogger Award. I have been awarded this before, but to have been nominated twice is the ultimate honour! So thank you LiLbooKlovers, I really appreciate it! You all should definitely go check out their blog. These bloggers create such beautiful posts and always have excellent reviews on all kinds of book!

1. Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.

2. Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.

3. Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write then 11 new questions.

4. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Thank you again Kester for nominating me and I hope you all enjoy my answers!

1. What is one book that made you cry?

The Penderwicks (1-4) by Jeanne Birdsall

All of these books made me cry for some reason. They are middle-grade but have some truly heart-breaking scenes. The books deal a lot with the themes of loss, death and renewal in the eyes of children so they make me teary sometimes.

2. If you could travel one place in the entire world and all your expenses were paid, where would you go?

Can I cheat and say Europe? It’s been a dream of mine to travel all of Europe and see the historical landmarks and take in the sites. France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Sweden, England… everywhere, I want to see it all! Perhaps some day!

3. Where is your favourite place to read? Like in front of fireplace, outside on the grass, on your bed in a blanket… what?

On the couch in my sitting room, with the sunlight pouring through the open curtains and some comfy pillows. If it is winter a nice blanket covering me, if it is summer the window must be open! It’s the perfect setting to keep me concentrated on my reading!

4. Which TV show would you choose to binge watch?

I tried to binge watch Gilmore Girls but got side tracked. I really want to watch Jane the Virgin and I need to catch up on Once Upon a Time!

5. Would you rather meet your favourite author but you cannot say a single word, or would you have a signed copy of your favourite book made personally to you but every 10th page is missing?

Meet my favourite author and not say a word. WHY?

A. I would  be in their presence.

B. I would get to see them physically sign my book.

C. I would save myself the embarrassment of saying something dumb (as I have before)

I would not be able to deal with missing pages!

6. What is your top reading strategy to maximize how many books you will read in a year?

Monthly goals, at least two books each month. On Fridays, Saturdays and Holidays I stay up really late. Like very, very late. In the summer I have a goal of 20 books in two months.

7. What is the talent or achievement that you are most proud of?

I can draw. I know some technique and craft. I’m no Picasso or DaVinci but I can make something look realistic or not…depending on the project.

8. What is your favourite movie adaptation of a book, and why?

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

This movie made me fall in love with Narnia. It made me want to go on adventures and be a queen. Be fearless. Be hopeful. Be magical. Just imagine a 6 year-old Rendz, sitting in a theatre with wide eyes taking in all the beauty and wonder that is Narnia. Hoping and dreaming that one day she would find her magical calling and be whisked off on adventures. Rendz is still waiting for that day, but her hope has not been deterred. Not to mention that the soundtrack is A M A Z I N G and it is literally the theme song of my life.

9. If you were going to recommend me one book, which one would it be, and why?

Cinder by Marissa Meyer…followed by the rest of the Lunar Chronicles. It has classic tales mixed with scifi, suspense, action and great twists. You will devour it!

10. Which fictional character would you go out on a date with, and do you think it would work out?

Ok..ok…I’ll do one for now. Just know that there is a long list.

Elias Veturius, you and me, dinner, pick me up at seven. Elias is so sweet and caring, I would love to go out with him. I think he would funny and charming and his eyes…oh his eyes! I wouldn’t be able to stop staring at them.

I would like to think that all my fictional dates would turn out successful, thank you very much.

11. What kind of book swag (e.g. buttons, bookmarks, postcards, bookplates, wristbands, etc.) is your favourite?

I like post cards! I love that they come with beautiful illustrations and detail. I actually won An Ember in the Ashes postcards in the newsletter giveaway by Sabaa Tahir and they are absolutely gorgeous!

My nominees!

My Questions:

  1. What is your current read? Are you enjoying it?
  2. What was your last read? What did you think of it?
  3. Which author are you *dying* to meet?
  4. How do you organize you shelves?
  5. Do you own any special book swag?
  6. Was there a time when you liked the movie more than the book?
  7. Would you rather be able to breathe under-water or fly?
  8. What is your favourite genre of books/movies?
  9. What is your guilty pleasure read?
  10. Do you have any unpopular opinions on books?
  11. What is your favourite past-time other than reading?

Thank you once again to LiLbooKlovers for nominating me, especially you, Kester! I hope you all enjoyed this post and follow my nominator and nominees because they are also super cool!

Happy reading!

~ Rendz

Sunshine Blogger Award!

Greetings Readers!

So I was nominated by the lovely Mandy, at Book Princess Reviews and Katy from Ardent Attachments for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Thank you both so much! I love both of their blogs please go check them out!

Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write then 11 new questions.
List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Mandy’s Questions

  1. Favourite Disney character – look at me, I’m not even limiting it to a Princess! Can we call this progress?

Firstly, I’m super proud of your progress Mandy 😉

disney cinderella
Hmmm…this one is tough because I adore Disney movies. My favourite Disney Princess growing up was definitely Cinderella. (Cheesy and cliche? I know.) This movie was a favourite of mine, I still watch it when I get the chance. It reminds me of being a kid and wanting to play dress-up and pretending I was a princess. It fuelled my imagination, something I am very grateful for to this day. Really all the Disney Princess movies impacted me in some way, except maybe Snow White because I have never watched it!

But other (non-princess) Disney characters I like are Simba, Bambi, Lumiere, Chip and of course Micky Mouse.

Also, I’ve always wanted to clean and see my reflection in thousands of bubbles. #HouseChoreGoals

Disney bubbles cinderella cleaning disney princess
2. What can always make you laugh?

My family. We are a crazy big bunch. Family gatherings are hectic and loud but they are true comedy gold. Especially the younger ones, they are the funniest.

Also I will never get over this classic.

3. What is your favourite quote?

Gosh there are so many good ones. But I have to go with the one I quote a lot.

You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream
I first found this quote in the eighth grade on a bookmark my teacher gave me (Alas, I’ve lost the bookmark since then) and it gave me so much hope and inspiration to keep pushing forward and pursue my dreams at whatever age or state in my life.

4. If you could have any animal in the world (or beyond) as a pet and you knew for sure that it wouldn’t eat you, what would it be?

I’ve always wanted a lion (Yes, this is totally related to the fact that Aslan is a lion). But having a ferocious beast who is loyal by your side is definitely a valuable asset. We would go on so many adventures together and I could travel on his back and get places faster. Nobody would mess with me with my lion by my side. 😉

5. What book do you wish that everyone could read?

There are so many amazing books in the world and reading them all might be impossible, our TBRs will never get any shorter. The books I’d recommend to you all is The Lunar Chronicles. I know they might not be everyone’s taste considering it is sci-fi mixed with fairy tales, but they are so amazing. I wish everyone would read them and fangirl with me!

6. Coffee, tea…neither?

I’m not a big fan of coffee. Unless it is loaded with sugar and milk.

I don’t drink tea, to me it is just flavoured hot water which I find kind of gross.

7. What authors are insta-buys for you?

Marissa Meyer, Marie Lu and Sabaa Tahir.

8. How do you feel about classic books?

I have only read classic books for school, really.

Except Narnia and Anne of Green Gables, any classic book I have read was for school. I tend to like most of them, not all. My favourite classic for school would have had to have been Lord of the Flies by William Golding (even though my teacher was not my favourite) . My least favourite is The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, it was so boring and difficult to understand. I got nothing from reading it.

9. What song is stuck in your head right this very minute?

Well I am currently listening to music so I don’t think that counts. BUT before that I was singing Tale as Old as Time from The Beauty and the Beast soundtrack and  My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion (I watched Titanic two weeks ago and it is still stuck in my head!)

movies titanic favourite deleted scene

10. And last, but not least, what do you think your favourite book of 2017 will be?

Well, I just finished Wires & Nerve by Marissa Meyer and it was amazing (review to come), it was my most anticipated read of the year. There are so many other books coming out that I am excited for, so we shall see in December who topped the charts!

Katy’s Questions

  1. Favourite book-to-film adaptation?

This one is so obvious for me. It is both my favourite book and movie!

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

the witch
2. Following on – what book do you want to be made into a TV show/film?

At the moment I’m wishing that The Lunar Chronicles and An Ember in the Ashes become movies and stick to the books exactly how they are! Here is to hoping.

3. Lastly – now dreamcast that film/tv show, only a few characters.

Okay I’ll do Ember because the Lunar Chronicles has seven main stars!

Okay so this a real quick search I did, they may not be completely accurate but they are close to how I picture the characters in my head!

Bianca A. Santos as Laia

Helene: I don’t have anyone specific in mind but this picture always reminds me of her.

Practicalle warrior:
via Pinterest
Elias: Multiple models whom I do not know the names of…

Elias:  Elias Elias:

I got all these pictures from Sabaa’s Pinterest board and let’s just say she picked some great inspirational pictures for Elias. *SWOON*

4. If you were to write a book, what do you think your main character would be called?

Well, I always think the meaning of a name is important to the characters life and personality. So it has to be something specific that is meaningful to them.

In my current WIP, Melana Eleanora stars as MC. Melana means dark and Eleanora means light in Spanish/Latin origins… if it ever becomes a real thing you’ll see why it’s important. 😉

5. What are three songs you adore and why?

Oh wow. My music interests literally lie all over the place, but my top three are as follows:

  1. The entire The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe soundtrack by Harry-Gregson Williams. (I totally cheated because this is like 20 songs in one) I love this because it allows me to relive the movie and it makes me feel magical.
  2. Break Away by Kelly Clarkson, this is a really old song. But it reminds me of my childhood and I adore it.
  3.  (I’m going to cheat again) Disney songs. Most of them anyways. Especially from the Princess movies (i.e. Cinderella, Mulan, and Pocahontas etc)

6. Do you play video games? What are a couple of your favourites?

I don’t play video games. I don’t even own a console. The closest I have ever gotten to a real video game is Mario Bros on Wii.

7. What book would you like to play through as a video game?

Everyone should know I would take any chance to go to Narnia, reality of virtually.

8. What is your favourite Disney film?

The Disney Princess movies with Cinderella as number one. Also, The Lion King, The Rescuers Down Under and Toy Story.

9. What three book characters would you like to have lunch with?

Cress from the Lunar Chronicles, Laia from An Ember in the Ashes and Meira from Snow Like Ashes. I think we would all just fangirl like crazy together.

10. If you were to get a Book related tattoo, what would you get?

Probably something Narnia related. Like a Lamppost on the side of one of my fingers. Or a quote from one of the books!

 11.What’s your favourite breakfast food?

Tamalitos de elote, Pupusas or eggs and bacon.

Okay, so if you read through all that, thank you very much! If you skipped to the end, I understand because it was pretty long, but it was pretty fun!

My Questions!

  1. What is your favourite sport?
  2. What was your first YA series you ever read?
  3. Doggy-eared pages. Efficient or Crime against books?
  4. Standalone, duology, trilogy or even more books in a series?
  5. What is your favourite genre?
  6. Do you cry at the end of a series?
  7. A cover change that you loved/hated.
  8. An OTP you sank with.
  9. Do you have more than one copy of the same book?
  10. An author you would love to meet. (Dead or alive)
  11. What book to movie adaptation do you want to STAR in? (You don’t have to be a good actor)
