My library hold just got in and I cannot wait to dive into Mack’s story. He was my favourite from book one so getting to read about my son will be amazing!

Next 5 Star Read

Hunted by the Sky by Tanaz Bhathena!

I might not read this for a while so it might not be the exact next, but I loved Tanaz’s contemporary book The Beauty of the Moment so I am super excited and have lots of high hopes for her fantasy debut!

Hunted by the Sky (Hunted by the Sky, #1)

Next 1 Star Read

This is a tough one because I don’t usually rate books one star! But if I have to confess what book I’m wary about reading it would be : Love Her or Lose Her by Tessa Bailey

Love Her or Lose Her (Hot & Hammered, #2)
via Goodreads

It’s not that I think it will be trash, but book one got 3 stars and I’m not totally in love with the characters in this one. Plus it is a second chance romance and hhhhmmmrrrpppphhh those haven’t worked out for me in the past.

Next Love Interest (or Character that Seems Really Cool to You)

I’ve saved my Christmas gift card for this purchase, I’m just waiting for the price to dip a little bit so I can go easy on the rest of my wallet!

Tagging: Anyone for who wants to try it out!

Let me know what you think! Are you any good at predicting your next reads? Have you ever felt a certain way about a book before you even started reading it?

Disney Princess Hair Book Tag

Greetings readers!

I feel like I haven’t done a tag in ages, so here I am with one that is long, long overdue. Two of the most wonderful bloggers I know, Mandy and Kyera created this very special tag that combines two wonders of the world: Books and Disney Princess Hair. That’s right: HAIR.

The Rules:

  • Link back to Kyera’s original post on Kyera‘s Library and Mandy’s post on Book Princess Reviews so we can see all your answers! (Be sure to do this via pingback, we don’t get notified if you just tag our URLs)
  • Thank the person(s) who tagged you… show the community some love!
  • Obviously, come up with your own wonderful answers!
  • Don’t forget to tag others to keep the tag going!

The ARC Book Tag | In Which I Call Myself OUT

Greetings readers!

As a blogger who started out way back in 2016, I thought that the day I would finally be getting ARCs was a long ways off. I wasn’t too concerned with them because I knew that in order to get them you really needed a platform and I just didn’t have one when I started out, obviously. So I was perfectly content with reviewing finished and already published books.

Then came the magical day when I received by first e-galley of Maud by Melanie J. Fishbane on Netgalley. From then on, I slowly started progressing with e-galleys, until I was contacted by a publisher and received an actual physical ARC. It was truly magical.

Since then, I have been getting a steady pile of ARCs every season, a perk for living in Canada and having big publishers and fewer bloggers. I feel for a lot of my international blogger friends who don’t get the chance to read ARCs because of legalities, but perhaps one day this bookish system will change and accessibility will widen.

Wow. That was a long intro. Anyways this incredible tag was created by none other than the wonderful ladies, Mandy and Sha over at Book Princess Reviews. If you know me, I am sure you know Mandy and Sha and if you don’t well I think you should correct that immediately!

Let’s get started!

RULES

  • pingback to the creator (bookprincessreviews)
  • pingback to the person who tagged you
  • tag as many people as you want
  • have fun!

WHAT’S THE FIRST ARC YOU EVER RECEIVED?

Spindle by E.K. Johnston…which I haven’t read. I went to an Indigo Preview event way back when and E.K. was present signing books so of course I got it! Plus I had read A Thousand Nights, which was beautiful and I still am interested in reading this one eventually. I wasn’t a blogger at the time when I received this, but this event inspired me to start one up!

*blushes* I know usually we are supposed to promote 2017 ARCs but....for today's #arcstravaganza I am featuring a 2016 ARC! 😳😳😳 I have had SPINDLE by E.K. Johnston since The summer and it's signed! I loved the first companion novel A Thousand Nights but I never got around to picking this one up before the release date! So hopefully get to it this summer...a whole year after I got it! Better late than never right? 😅 Do you have any expired ARCs? #spindle #ekjohnston #youngadult #youngadultbooks #arcs #Prettycover #bookstagram #books #bookworm #reader #readingwithrendz

*I really love this photo. XD I took it in a rush because I forgot about the IG prompt that day and the light was fading so I had to act fast. Fun note: That’s actually an olive branch from a Palm Sunday mass I attended earlier that year XD*

WHAT ARC WOULD YOU SELL YOUR SOUL FOR?

REBEL (aka Legend 4) by Marie Lu

Who else lost it when the Rebel news came out? My excitement for this book is incredible. Like... I have been waiting for this for years and we are finally going to get it. I still can't believe how lucky we are and how amazing @marieluthewriter is for making our dreams come true! Have you read the Legend trilogy yet? #Legend #Prodidy #Champion #Rebel #bookstagram #reader #books #scifi #bookstagram #yabooks #books #bookishcanadians

But also not. But I definitely would. I flipped my bejeebers the day the announcement came out, people. I CANNOT WAIT FOR THE FALL!!!!!

USING ARCS YOU HAVE RECEIVED OVER THE YEARS, SPELL OUT A-R-C.

Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian

Replica by Lauren Oliver

Circle of Shadows by Evelyn Skye

*I would like to gloat that I have actually read all of these :)*

📑 Ash Princess by Laura Sebastian I read this about a week ago and rather enjoyed it! It reminded a lot of The Winner's Trilogy and Red Queen. If you enjoyed those I would definitely recommend you pick this one up! What fantasy books are you looking forward to this year? #ashprincess #laurasebastian #bookstagram #yabooks #ya #youngadultbooks #fantasy #reader #books THIS WILL GET DONE THIS WEEKEND! I've been reading it for 46 days now! Life has just been so busy I hardly have any time to sit down and read. After I finish my novel study for school, I'll pick this up and finish it! I actually got to meet the lovely Lauren Oliver and you can read about that wonderful experience on my blog! (Link in bio) No spoilers, but (unlike me) has anyone finished this interesting read! Share your thoughts below! But once again #nospoilersplease *** #readingwithrendz #readreadread #books📚 #bookstagram #Replica #laurenoliver #yalit #torteen #Gemma #Lyra Soon to be read is CIRCLE OF Shadows by @evelyn_skye I've been anticipating this book since the moment it was announced and I am so happy to finally have my hands on a copy! Many thanks to @hccfrenzy for sending me an ARC, my Holiday reading sure did get more fun! I really enjoyed Skye's The Crown's Game duology, so I have a good feeling about this series too! What are you reading this holiday season? #circleofshadows #evelynskye #epicreads #yabooks #books #reader #bookishcanadians #fantasy

*yes, this is the only picture I have of Replica and it is the ugliest photo I have ever taken. THAT BLANKET! *face meet palm*

ULTIMATE QUESTION: TO DNF OR NOT TO DNF AN ARC?

I really don’t like not finishing in general. I tend to give books the benefit of the doubt often and it doesn’t always work out (see Circle of Shadows review). I don’t know, I feel like I owe it to the publisher to read the book, especially if I requested it. That being said, I tend to force myself to read books that just aren’t working for me a lot and that needs to change I think.

NAME AN ARC YOU DNF’D AND AN ARC YOU COULD NEVER DNF.

DNF: A Mark Unwilling by Candace Wondrak
It was just so wrong in so many ways. I ended up skimming after 50% to reach the end so I guess it counts as a DNF

COULD NEVER DNF: The Light Between Worlds by Laura E. Weymouth
I was l o v i n g my post-Narnia adventure book!

Do you hear that? Those echoing screams? Well it's probably me you hear. Screaming at the top of my lungs out of utter elation for being in possession of this book. This book. I have been waiting for a book like this for yeeaaarrsss and now I finally have it in my hands. Basically it's a story of sisters trying to reintegrate themselves into their real world after having a whimsical adventure in a land like Narnia. Narnia. Do you hear me screaming now? A big thanks to @hccfrenzy for inviting me to their Fall preview event, which is the reason I got my hands on this beauty. Now excuse me while I go back to petting this fabulous book. #TheLightBetweenWorlds #LauraEWeymouth #bookstagram #yabooks #books #fantasy #Frenzy #narnia

WHAT ARC DID YOU GO OUT AND BUY A FINISHED COPY OF AFTER?

The Beautiful Ones by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

I had read an e-ARC, but I needed that physical copy on my shelf!!! (I love it so much) I bought it off of Book Outlet though, cheap and in great condition!

Day 4 of #bookishcanadiansfeb19 | Canadian Author Some of you are missing out on Silvia Moreno-Garcia's work and it's a shame. She has so much to choose from: 1) Signal to Noise - music and magic 2) Certain Dark Things - Mexican vampires and narcos 3) The Beautiful Ones - romance, manners and telekinesis 4) Prime Meridian - Mexican astronaut in space 5) Gods of Jade and Shadow - Maya gods in the roaring 20s (Aug 2019) THERE IS SO MUCH TO CHOOSE FROM. TAKE YOUR PICK AND GO FOR IT! Who are some of your favourite Canadian authors? #Thebeautifulones #certaindarkthings #silviamorenogarcia #mexicanvampires #fantasy #bookstagram #canadianauthor #CanLit #bookishcanadians

WHICH MEDIUM DO YOU GET MOST OF YOUR ARCS IN? (PHYSICAL / EBOOK / AUDIO)

When I first started out, I started with e-ARCs on Netgalley. I didn’t get a lot of acceptances, but as I found more Canadian pubs, I got approved more often.

Then a publisher actually reached out to me and I was sent physical arcs. And from then on I went hunting. I searched endlessly for Canadian publisher info and tried my very best to make myself known more on my social sites and then I had to build guts to actually send out those emails. Now I’m working with 4 Canadian pubs and they grant a lot of my requests! (I’m looking at you Penguin Teen CA and HBG Canada!!!)

GIVE BLOGGERS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE REGARDING ARCS (RECEIVING / REVIEWING).

Pace yourself. Don’t get greedy.

Only request books you really want to read, that really have your interest. Not half of it, but all of it.

Don’t pull a Rendz.

Here I am calling myself out.

I have a problem when it comes to requesting. I tend to request based on the in-the-moment feeling of “I wanna read that book” so what usually happens is that when I get the ARC, I no longer have the dying need to read it, so it gets pushed and pushed and pushed, until it’s way past its release date and then it just feels pointless in reading the ARC. This is super horrible of me. I know it. It’s why one of my new years resolutions was to relax the requesting game.

I feel terrible looking at the unread ARCs I have and thinking that it could have gone to someone that really wanted to read it. Of course I tell myself that I will eventually read them, but if I keep bogging myself with more and more, will I ever truly get to them all? Probs not.

SO the best advice I give to you and to ME is to pace yourself, and don’t get greedy.

Disney Channel Halloween Movies Tag

Greetings readers!

Continuing with the #Spooktober theme I have been tagged by the amazing Sha and Mandy of Book Princess Reviews to do their very own, original DISNEY CHANNEL HALLOWEEN MOVIES TAG!! I ADORE Disney Channel Movies in general, but the Halloween ones are just so, so, so good AND spooky! I am incredibly excited to do this tag so I will not delay any longer and get right into it!

Rules:

  1. Tag the creator (bookprincessreviews) of the DHM Tag.
  2. Thank the person who tagged who.
  3. Answer the questions.
  4. Tag five more people.

Halloweentown: Where is your favorite place to go for Halloween or a place you want to go?

Image result for halloweentown gif

On Halloween I usually like to stay at home (since I have outgrown trick-or-treating sadly 😦 ) I love to stay in and watch…well umm…Disney Channel Halloween movies…..BUT I have always wanted to go to an old castle in Europe and stay over night. (They have tours like that, right?) I mean 1000% I would freak myself out, but the experience would totally be cool!

Under Wraps: What’s something that used to be scary to you and then you realized it wasn’t just the mummy in this movie?

Something that used to be scary for me…hmmm….I used to be afraid of big roller coasters. I only did the kiddie rides until I was about 11 or so and said to myself “Rendz we have to suck it up and be brave” so I went on my first big kid roller coaster and it was THE BEST. Now I LOVE roller coasters! The higher, the better! The faster, the better!

*If you are ever on a coaster yourself and hear someone shouting a “Hail Mary” as you go up the mount, know that that is me.

Tower of Terror: What is the scariest place you’ve ever been?

Image result for tower of terror gif

I avoid scary places…oh gosh…ummm probably the small auditorium I was in when I did a speech competition in French. I am frickin traumatized. I tried to put my introvert self out there…but nope nope nope not for me!

Twitches: If you could be any supernatural creature, what would you be?

Image result for twitches gif

WITCH. GIVE ME ALLLLLLL THE MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t Look Under the Bed: Were you scared of monsters when you were a kid? When did it stop?

Image result for don't look under the bed gif

Hell yes. Ghosts especially. I was that kid who would run up the stairs from the basement once I turned off the lights. If there was a dim light in my room, I would NOT open my eyes for fear of seeing something scary in the dark. My arm or feet could NOT hang off the bed for fear of something coming out from under my bed to snatch me. My imagination ran wild and I would hear whispers of my name when I would be in a room by myself.

When did it stop? I still run up the stairs from the basement.

Phantom of the Megaplex: Do you watch scary movies? If so, what is your favorite or the one you got most afraid of?

Image result for phantom of the megaplex gif

Hell NO! I watched one scary movie with my sisters once, gosh I don’t remember what it’s called. *Quick google search* Oh it’s called The Haunting which starred Liam Neeson a.k.a Alsan a.k.a the reason we watched it. Anyways it freaked me the f*** out and NEVER AGAIN. But dumb Rendz tried to watch The Woman in Black once, during daylight and I JUST CAN’T.

The Scream Team: Who would be on your dream team if you went on a ghost/supernatural creature hunt?

Image result for the scream team gif

Carswell Thorne so I could hide behind him and cuddle close when something freaky starts happening. And maybe Nedra from Give the Dark My Love because she’s a necromancer and has good control.

Mom’s Got a Date with a Vampire: Have you ever witnessed something/someone that could only be explained by the paranormal? If yes, what/who?

I don’t think so……maybe I have but I am too traumatized to remember…?

The Representation Book Tag & My very near future Latinx TBR | It’s #HispanicHeritageMonth so it’s time to get the party started!

Greetings readers!

We are in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept 15-Oct 15) and I thought it would be fun to do a little tag! Now HHM isn’t really talked about much where I am from. It’s not exactly established and to be honest I didn’t know it was a thing until like two years ago when I first joined twitter. So yeah.

I think this month is more well known in the US than Canada just because they have such a larger Latinx and Hispanic population. But there are Latinx people everywhere and I choose to celebrate it even if it’s really just me when I’m not online.

I found this tag on CatFairy Books which looks like a very fun blog. This tag was originally created by Booktuber Iris Moon! If you want to see more, check out their posts! It’s all about representation and how often you feel seen in books!

1. Introduce yourself! What are your identities?

Hi, I’m Rendz…but my name is not Rendz. However, for the purpose of this blog it is. Rendz is actually a nickname I sort of adopted in high school, so I adopted it for this blog of mine. I’m pretty much your everyday Rendz. Female. Cis-het. Introvert.

I was born and raised in Canada, but my parents immigrated here from El Salvador. A small Central American country that owns half of my heart. It’s not exactly the most popular country…or safe. But it is home. (Regardless of my parents saying that I can only claim it so much…yup) I choose to claim it all. It’s home and I ache to go visit.

2. What was the first book/media in which you felt represented?

I honestly don’t know the exact first time. I know it wasn’t in books. When I was young we had access to Latino TV so Univision and Telelatino were parts of my life. And even though I shouldn’t have been watching telenovelas….I did pay attention to some.

dora the explorer GIF

And I wouldn’t exactly count Dora the Explorer as the best rep either. Although she did help keep up my Spanish.

I sort of felt represented in The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy by Rae Carson. Mostly because the world and language had Spanish influence, and Elisa was just an amazing character. (I seriously need to reread these books) But Rae Carson is not Latinx and although some words may be similar to Spanish it’s just not the same as reading a book where you actually see your experiences from your culture, right?

HOWEVER, Flor and Miranda Steal the Show by Jennifer Torres had many moments where I went #relate. So I think that is my final answer. Lock it in.

Flor and Miranda Steal the Show

3. Is there a character in your favorite book/genre that represents you?

I’m still looking.

It’s not that I haven’t found characters that I relate to, in terms of like my personality…but I would really like to see my heritage reflected in a book. Which is not gonna be easy to find. Yes, there are many Latinx books out there. But every Latinx country is distinct, we all have our own traditions, foods, customs and yes some do overlap, but I really really want to read a book about a Salvadoran character. (Don’t even get me started how long I would have to wait for a Salvadoran Canadian character, I’d have to write that!)

I don’t know when it will happen. Maybe I will make it happen? Who knows, but I am 1000% dropping all my dollars on it.

jumping el salvador GIF by U.S. Soccer Federation

4. What was the worst representation of one of your identities that you have ever read?

Not just in books, but I get so annoyed whenever Latinx characters are A) The Sex Object B) The Troubled Kid from the gang C) The Maid/Gardener.

maid in manhattan GIF

I have had enough of that. Give me Latinx royalty. Latinx mythology. Latinx superheroes. Latinx nerds. Latinx anti-heroes. Latinx magic and fantasy.

5. What is the best representation of your identities that you have ever read?

Once again…still looking. I just have not read nearly enough Latinx books to come up with a good answer! But I am so looking forward to one day finding that book, where it hits almost all the points. For now I am just content reading any Latinx book!

6. Do you think your identities are misrepresented or underrepresented in the books that you read?

With the persistence to have an increasing presence of diversity in YA and MG, I am beginning to see the end of what was an under representation in those age categories. Recently, I have been discovering more and more books with Latinx characters and every week I check for more announcements on Latinx books that are to come. Let’s just say I have a long list of books to get to and I couldn’t be more excited. What I am hoping for is a lot more expansion within the Latinx stories told. There are so many Latinx countries out there, so many stories to be told.

I want to see them. I want to read them. I want to write them.

I Tag…

You. Everyone has an identity to share. Everyone has books that represent who they are, and I would love to read about them. So if you do decide to partake, ping back to me so I can see it! There are so many identities out there, I would love to get to know you a little more!

The Very Near Future Latinx TBR

Because so many of my answers were kind of left open since I haven’t read enough Latinx books to really know what’s out there, I decided to list some books that I know I want to get to!

Certain Dark Things and Prime Meridian and Gods of Jade and Shadow (2019) by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

The Storm Runner by J.C. Cervantes

Charlie Hernández and the League of Shadows by Ryan Calejo

Blanca & Roja (and other works) by Anna-Marie McLemore

And basically this entire list come 2019

And more!

LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! Are you interested in reading more Latinx rep? Any book recommendations for Latinx rep? What kind of representation would you like to see in books/media?

Happy reading!

Egyptian Mythology Book Tag

Greetings readers!

Here I am with the weekly tag! *jazz hands* I am coming to you with one that has been sitting in my drafts for a long while. It was created by one of my dear friends, Kyera @ Kyera’s Library!

Kyera always comes up with amazing tags, so I was so excited to see she added another one to her mythological themed group! Egyptian mythology and really all mythology are so intriguing, I love discovering new facts and new histories.

Enough of me chatting let’s get on with it!

The Rules:

  • Link back to my original post on Kyera’s Library so I can see all your answers! (Be sure to do this via pingback, I don’t get notified if you just tag my URL)
  • Thank the person(s) who tagged you… show the community some love!
  • Obviously, come up with your wonderful answers!
  • Don’t forget to tag others to keep the tag going!

Amun-Ra.png

AMUN-RA – CHARACTER WHO ENTHUSIASTICALLY INVOLVES THEMSELVES IN EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS

Ra is the falcon-headed sun god, the creator and he named five of his fellow gods.

The Nightbringer. (An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir)

No one can do anything without him knowing. Ugh. I know I was probably supposed to choose a character who is fun loving and nosy, but he is a next level kind of nosy you don’t want to meet!

Sobek (1).png

OSIRIS – FAVOURITE DOWN-TO-EARTH MALE CHARACTER

Osiris is the god of death, farming, and vegetation.

Billy from Three Dark Crowns (I forgot his last name…oops)

He is just so cute and naive and I love him. The purest of pure….but like he has seen and done(?) his fair share of bad deeds. No one is perfect.

Isis.png

ISIS – FAVOURITE FEMALE CHARACTER WITH POWERS

Isis is the goddess of magic and fertility, as well as being the mother goddess.

Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles!

I love the fact that she has magic-like powers in her glamour and her computer brain that is a magic on its own!

cinder p1

Anubis.png

ANUBIS – CHARACTER YOU WISH YOU COULD BRING BACK FROM THE DEAD

Anubis took over as guardian of the underworld from his father, so he is the god of the afterlife and death.

*SPOILERS* *SPOILERS*

Sorscha from Heir of Fire.

She deserved the world. Not a decapitation. I will never get over her death, she could have been someone great. Another reason for my disdain of the ToG series.

*End of SPOILERS*

Set.png

SET – A CHARACTER THAT IS MORE DEVIOUS THAN THE ACTUAL VILLAIN

Set is the god of darkness, chaos, and storms.

Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows

To get the bad guy, you have to be worse than than the bad guy. My man knows what he is doing, and he is doing things right.

Hathor.png

HATHOR – QUOTE THAT BRIGHTENS YOUR DAY

Hathor is the cow goddess of motherhood, joy, happiness, music, and love.

“Each day means a new twenty-four hours. Each day means everything’s possible again. You live in the moment, you die in the moment, you take it all one day at a time.”
― Marie LuLegend

ICONIC.

Neith.png

NEITH – CHARACTER YOU WISH YOU COULD RECEIVE LIFE ADVICE FROM

Neith is the goddess of the hunt, wisdom, weaving, and battle.

Mamie Rila (An Ember in the Ashes)

She always has something beautiful and wise to say, so let her guide me.

Ma'at.png

MA’AT – INJUSTICE YOU WISH YOU COULD RECTIFY

Ma’at is the goddess of truth, harmony, and justice.

The cover of Tower of Dawn. #Bitter. #ChaolShoulHaveBeenOnTheCover.

Horus.png

HORUS – FAVOURITE BRIGHT/CHEERY BOOK COVER

Horus is the god of light and the sky, as well as the god of the Pharaohs.

*realizes practically all of my books are black/have a sword on them* That doesn’t really scream cheery does it???

UMMM but this copy of Anne sure is cute!

Happy Mothers Day! While finding books to take this photo I realized that there are not a lot of moms present in YA (fantasy to be specific). While going along the shelves and looking at my books I either said dead mom or bad mom. Luckily today we can celebrate all the women in our lives who teach us, guide us and strengthen our hearts. Not mothers of our birth but mothers of our souls! So special shout out to my favourite fictional motherly figures: Marilla Cuthbert, stern but kind hearted and Ximena the most kickass yet gentle nurse ever! Once again happy Mother's Day to all the mother-like women in our lives! Who are some of your fave fictional mothers? #thegirloffireandthorns #raecarson #anneofgreengables #lmmontgomery #mothersday #fictionalmoms #marillacuthbert #ximena #youngadultbooks #reader #bookworm #bookaddict #readingwithrendz

THoth.png

THOTH – BOOK WITH THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PROSE

Thoth is the god of wisdom, writing, magic and the moon.

Whatever Roshani Chokshi writes!

Happy New Years Eve! It's the last day of 2017 people, that's crazy! On this night, my family gets together to count down to midnight and ring in the new year together! We also gobble down twelve grapes for each ring of the bell. With each grape you make one wish or resolution that you hope to fulfill in the new year. (Last year the grapes had seeds so it was a struggle 🙃) 2017 was a great year for me and the growth of my blog and bookstagram. I got to read so many great books including The Star-Touched Queen by @roshanichokshi ! I recently bought A Crown of Wishes to complete the the series on my shelf! I featured the duology in my post today! (Plus it was fitting with the whole grape - wish thing... At least the wish part!) What plans do you have to ring in the New Year? What is your most anticipated 2018 read? #thestartouchedqueen #acrownofwishes #roshanichokshi #ya #yafantasy #youngadultbooks #bookstagram #books #yabooks #newyearseve

Ptah.png

PTAH – BEST WORLD BUILDING

Ptah is the creator and craftsman of the gods.

The Empire in An Ember in the Ashes

Sabaa Tahir is an icon.

Khonsu.png

KHONSU – BOOK YOU WISH YOU COULD READ FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN

Khonsu is the god of time and the moon.

I would really love to read The Lunar Chronicles for the first time again. It would be soooo amazing!!!!!!!!

I mean….to get to fall for Carswell Thorne again *swoon*

Sobek.png

SOBEK – BOOK YOU WOULD SAVE FROM DROWNING (POSSIBLY OVER ANOTHER PERSON, NO JUDGEMENT)

Sobek is the god of the Nile and water.

The Cliché Book Tag

Greetings readers!

I was tagged by the lovely Catherine @ This One is For the Books to do this tag! Thank you ever so much, Catherine! As much as she is lovely, she is also quite a wonderful blogger, so you should definitely give her site a visit!

I am one who loves and hates clichés. There are those that I live for and some I can honestly live without. This tag made me go through lots of emotions, made me really think about which ones I like and don’t, so I hope you enjoy!

Actions Speak Louder Than Words.

A Book That Wasn’t Or Couldn’t Be Better Than The Movie.

Every Disney Adaptation over the Grimm of Anderson fairy tale….? They may be really sugared up and kid friendly compared to the original tales, but come on who doesn’t love a good Disney film!

walt disney GIF

The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side.

A Rags To Riches Or Riches To Rags Story.

Is it cheating if I say Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles because she is literally living the most iconic rags to riches story as a Cinderella retelling??? I don’t think so….soooooo CINDER!

cf7e0-15802572_634502993425026_9053865302772678656_n

The Apple Does Not Fall Far From The Tree.

A Parent Child Relationship That You Love

Mr. Penderwick and his four (and then six) children.

He is literal dad goals. All dads should aspire to be as kind, generous, funny and intuitive as Mr.P is with his kids. I literally just get all happy and sunshiny when I think about this family and the father-daughters relationship development in book 2! Ugh I just love them!

You Can’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover.

A Great Book That Needs A Better Cover.

Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas

CHAOL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE COVER. NOT A STUPID SHIELD WITH AN OWL. THE DISRESPECT IS REAL. YES, I AM STILL MAD ABOUT IT.

tod2

You Can’t Please Everyone.

A Book You Hate That Everyone Loves.

Queen of Shadows/Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas. I hate (and yet enjoy) the series in general, but a strong hate for these two books is most prevalent.

What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger.

What’s A Book That Made You A Better Person For Having Read It.

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner by Khalid Hosseini

Confession: I am a reader who usually avoids the hard hitting books. The ones that are emotionally raw and have heavy subjects. I use the excuse that I don’t want to cry, but I think I’m just scared of reading about events that could have or have happened to people. And realizing that the world is terrible and that people have to go through things that are so much worse. I hate feeling uncomfortable. But like what is me being uncomfortable? Nothing. So I have to suck it up and read these books, which are important.

Reading this book was hard, it was gut wrenching and emotional. And it was at times very uncomfortable. But in the end I feel like I can understand what people who have suffered like the characters a little more. That they deserve their stories to be told and that they deserve happiness. And it’s my job to not stay ignorant about it.

Love Is Blind.

A Book With A Disabled Character Or Actual Blind Love.

The Broken Kingdoms (Inheritance, #2)

The Broken Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin

The MC in this book, Oree is actually blind! Reading from her perspective was actually really entertaining! There were still plenty of descriptions to be had! I really enjoyed the first two books of the series so I’m hoping to one day get back to the third book!

Ignorance Is Bliss.

A Book That Is Bad But You Just Don’t Want To Admit It.

Immortal Reign by Morgan Rhodes

This really hurts to admit it, but I was unimpressed by this ending. I loved every single book prior to this one, but you can tell that Morgan struggled to find the right finish and to be honest it could have been better. *cries*

Immortal Reign

There Is No Time Like The Present.

What Is Your Favourite Contemporary Book?

I don’t think I have one really. Contemporary is not a genre I reach to regularily (only in the summer) and from the books I have read…none of them I can really claim as my favourite.

Better Safe Than Sorry.

A Book You Don’t Want To Read In Case It’s Bad

Anything by V. E. Schwab. I haven’t read any of her books and yet I own her Shades of Magic trilogy and Vicious. I want to read them really badly, but with this slump I have going on I’m afraid of not finding the magic in her work like others have! But like I’m gonna read them…eventually.

V.E. Schwab
