Books I Read While Having No Clue As to What Was Goin’ On! | It was just one big ol’ question mark

Greetings readers!

I’ve been thinking a lot about some series I’ve read long, long ago. Some I remember quite well. Others I remember, but have lots of fuzz about the events. And then there are others that…I just…I didn’t even know what I was reading while I was reading them…

The Assassin’s Curse duology by Casandra Rose Clarke

The Assassin's Curse (The Assassin's Curse, #1)  The Pirate's Wish (The Assassin's Curse, #2)
*via Goodreads*

It was pirates. But also a desert. And assassins. I just didn’t get these books. I don’t remember much about them, but all I can tell you is that I really didn’t get these books. I tried, but the characters didn’t stick, the plot was…I don’t even know what it was.

I don’t know why I pushed through with these.

The Elemental Trilogy by Sherry Thomas

The Burning Sky The Perilous Sea The Immortal Heights
*via Goodreads*

A trilogy I read that was just a total: ?????. I had no idea what the heck was going on half the time. I know it had magic, and that there was a magical world they could get to through a book but there was a magical secret society under the real-world. The MC had to dress as a boy and go to an all boys school but then…it was just ???????????????????

I know I liked it, but I don’t what the heck was going on. I was–and still am–just so lost.

Incarceron and Sapphique by Catherine Fisher

I actually am hoping to reread this series, one day. The premise was so interesting and the characters were really good. But I don’t think tween-Rendz really understood what the actually plot of the book was…Like I think I read them just for the character interactions and didn’t pay enough attention to what was actually going on.

These books are just a blur, so they def need a reread.

Death Sworn duology by Leah Cypess

  1. These books confused the heck out of me
  2. They were kinda trash

These books. I don’t even know. One minute the girl is trapped in a tower full of dudes to teach them magic. The next minute she is having a hot fling with her once-enemy. Then her enemy is actually her enemy. And she kills him?? No…she kills the other guy that tried to make this a triangle. Or not. The point is she stays enemies with the guy she once got hot and heavy with and leaves with her friend as his betrothed.

What?

I am probably horribly wrong. But that is what I remember happening. It was a mess.

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

Look people.

I picked this series up because I was super curious and well…I wanted to see what all the hype was about. So I read the first book and while I liked I was like…okay. I kinda get it? Um let’s do book 2. So I read book 2 and I came of that one thinking: I liked it, but still a little lost? Book 3 was read and it was just a ?????????what the heck is going on situation?????? Yet I remember liking it well enough to read book 4. Of which my concluding thoughts are: ?W?T?F?–what the heck did I just read??????????????? Not to mention it was anti-climatic af.

In short. Don’t ask me about this series because I have no f*king clue what the heck I read. I know I kinda of liked it, but it was just so hard to understand. Stiefvater wrote this book in riddles and circles that you constantly have to pick up and figure out to get what was going on and I just could not.

I think this explains why I am apprehensive to pick up the spin-off series. I really liked Ronan…but I don’t want to go through another trilogy where I can’t understand what is going on!

Let me know what you think! Have you ever read a book and just have no clue what was going on? Do you have trouble remembering plot lines? Were any of these mind-confuzzling books for you too?

Happy reading!

  1. Am I supposed to say Incarceron and Sapphique with a sassy French accent because too late I did.

I totally last it at The Raven Cycle. You just descended into a spiral of confusion but also continual consumption of the series and if that isn’t a mood WHAT IS ANYMORE.

Great post Rendz!!! but honestly who is shocked. I was laughing throughout. and also thinkig of my own ????-esque reads. Their names may not be spoken.

even with a sassy French accent.

  3. There have certainly been a few books that I’ve read that I was just like ?????? the entire time I read them. I haven’t read any of these, though, and I’m pretty sure I don’t plan on picking up any. XD Death Sworn sounds like so so much of a mess. XD I had been thinking about doing The Raven Cycle since there are so much hype surrounding it but I was worried I was gonna be walking around with a confused face. You pretty much confirmed my suspicions, lol. Wonderful post, Rendz, and I was super entertained. 🙂

    1. There are more books I could have talked about…but these ones really had me acting like a human question mark.
I would love to hear your thoughts on the Raven Cycle…but Mandy. A walking question mark is what you shall become.
      Thanks for reading!!!
