Sunshine Blogger Award Pt 4

Greetings readers!

I am truly a horrible blogger. I have been nominated for this award 7 more times after the first 3 times I’ve answered.

I know they say that you should feel no pressure to answer, but I love answering people’s bookish questions! So just to let you know there will be about 3 or more rounds of the Sunshine Blogger award on this blog site!

To make it easier for you and me, I’ll keep my answers really short! Unless it requires rambling!

So for Round 4 I would like to thank the amazing:

Kate @ Melting Pots and Other Calamities for nominating me! She has an incredible blog! Her site focuses on books and webtoons! So if you are into that or have an interest in finding out more on those, you should definitely pay her a visit!

Another huge THANK YOU to Erin @ A Red  Heads Rambling! Another incredible blog, full of wonderful reviews and posts that I hope you all pay a visit and even a follow!

  • Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions sent by the person who nominated you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and write then 11 new questions. (I’ll do a few)
  • List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post and/or on your blog.

Kate’s Questions!

1. What is a piece of fiction (book/TV show/anime/movie/webcomic) that was difficult to get through, but ultimately worth it?

Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas, I just did not want to read that book, but I pushed through!

2. What is a plot twist that you should’ve seen coming, but didn’t?

Three Dark Crowns, specifically Katharine’s ending. Like I knew something was going to go down, I just didn’t think it would be that!

3. Is there a villain or antagonist that you can’t help but call a favorite character? If so, who?

The Darkling. I can’t help it. He is my small, angry, dark bean! ❤

4. What is one thing you usually dislike, but have an exception for? (Example: I usually dislike video games, but I do like…)

I don’t really like to watch sports on TV, but I will make exceptions for the Olympic Games and some World Cup games. Otherwise, I usually just watch the highlights!

5. What is something you’ve been meaning to read or watch for forever?

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard (I think I say this too often, but I must. Maz will kill me if I do not read this soon!)

6. What is your favorite post from June?

Ahhh June was so long ago, but my Tower of Dawn Cover Reveal Rant was my absolute favourite!

7. Who is your favourite character from whatever you’re currently reading or watching?

I’m currently reading A Forest of A Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao, I’m not that far in but Xifeng is definitely a character I’m taking a liking to!

8. If you had to choose between Netflix or Hulu, which would win?

I have neither. So I don’t really have an opinion….

Whichever makes a great adaptation of The Lunar Chronicles or Six of Crows wins.

9. What is a show, anime, or webcomic that desperately needs another season?

Containment! I need an after the escape season!

10. If you were given the sudden motivation to write and complete something, what genre would it be?

My stories and characters that usually pop up into my head have magic or live in magical worlds…so there is your answer.

11. What are some animations and/or webcomics that you think have some of the best art?

*If this counts* That mini movie they showed before Finding Dory, “Piper”. It was so beautiful and the story is just so cute!! Here is a clip:

Erin’s Questions

1.  Do you have particular conditions or requirements that you need to read?

DC….? I don’t really have a preference, though!

I haven’t read Harry Potter, so I wouldn’t know!  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Right now: Aeon – Nick Murry (Cinderella 2015 score), Impossible – Two Steps from Hell, Now We Are Free – 2CELLOS (from Gladiator)

9.  What Netflix series would you recommend the most?

I don’t watch Netflix…… 😉

10.  What is your favourite season and why?

The opposites. Summer and Winter.
Summer because of the heat and sun and winter because I get to be all cozy and Christmas!!!

11.  Every Disney princess has their trusty side kick. What animal would you pick to be yours?

Oh gosh the pressure. I’ve kind of always wanted a wolf or a fox. Something sly, mischievous, fierce and beautiful.

Prodigy Prince | Review

Greetings readers!

I accidentally took another mini-hiatus these past days and I am just getting out of my Christmas coma. Let me tell you guys, the Christmas parties were never ending within my family, but I enjoyed it all so I couldn’t have asked for a better holiday! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas if you celebrate. If not, rest up well my friends, the New Year parties will start coming up soon.

Anyways, before I left on hiatus I began a cute book that I was finally able to finish a while ago. Thank you very much to the author who reached out and offered me a copy in exchange for an honest review!

Prodigy Prince by Natasha Sapienza

Prodigy Prince (The Seven Covenant Book 1)

At seventeen, all Prince Nuelle had ever known was safety and peace while living in the Supreme Palace of Zephoris.

But one night, his older brother, Tane, defies their father by traveling to a cursed land. Now Nuelle holds the signet-ring and carries more responsibility than even Tane bore. Thrust from the palace and sent to a knight-building academy, Nuelle must discover his purpose for the entire kingdom’s sake.

From his place of banishment, Prince Antikai has been exacting revenge through fear and rebellions. Nuelle has the potential to defeat him, but he needs the help of a powerful book and six gifted youths.

Summoned by Antikai, shape-shifting beasts and other enemies hunt Nuelle and the Acumen. If either is destroyed, the faithful citizens in Zephoris will perish, and darkness will rule forever.

A stunning cover and an intriguing synopsis had me all over this book! I enjoyed it, although it has its flaws. It was full of magic, adventure and fun that I think a lot of readers might enjoy!

What I Liked:

A.K.A Nu was a good character. He was someone who believed in honour and cherishing the relationships with the people around him. He idolized his father who was a rather mysterious character, but a really big influence on Nuelle and the decisions he made. He was worried about not living up to expectations and having to make difficult choices and worst of all failing. Following him on his journey to discovering his full potential was an enjoyable ride.

The Sentinels:

These characters basically made up Nu’s whole gang. His friends that he had to depend on to get him to his destination and fight the bad guys. They were all really fun to follow. Ave was the jokester and heart of the group. Sophana was the tough-as-nails girl who had the best comebacks. Elisena was the cinnamon roll and glue that kept the group together. There were lots of others along the way that helped out too, like Surta, Javin and the Gavrilian (His name escapes me!)

The Creatures:

The addition of the creature guide definitely helped because there were a lot of creepy-crawlies and monstrous things that popped up. As a fantasy lover, I cannot help but love a good made up creature. They added a lot of adventure and danger to the story. Perhaps, there were slightly too many to remember them all.

The World & Magic:

Very Unique! With so many magical kingdoms came many different kinds of magic and politics that made for a great read. I have to say, I have read a lot of magical books. Most of them stemming from the elements. While this magic does sort of come from the elements the actual powers themselves were quite astounding. Coral for arms, leaf blades popping out of ones skin, being able to literally show your inner thoughts, talk to animals and read peoples hearts. Yeah, count me in.

Yeah, It’s Chosen One, but It’s Cute:

As the second born prince to the Supreme King who really only needs one heir, Nuelle’s role as royalty was not that important. But this is YA people, and we all know that when someone is destined for nothing, it actually means they are destined for greatness and they are going to go on this epic journey to figure it all out. Cliché yes, but it’s one of my favourites: The Chosen One. It’s so familiar and yeah, it’s a way overdone, but I love a good adventure, with great characters that support our chosen one and take him to his final destination.

What I Disliked:

Awkward Pacing:

The chapters really had me frustrated. First of all, some of them were very long so I think that’s a sign that it could either be split or some things need to go. In addition to being so long, some chapters had so many events. Just hit after hit after hit after hit, while other chapters just dragged on and nothing really happened. So while some parts of the story had me flipping and flipping others just couldn’t keep my attention long enough. Sigh.

Give Me Longer Trials:

In order to be a sentinel, there were trials that needed to be faced. I LOVE trials, tests, contests anything that has to do with showing off powers and performing one’s best. I thought that picking Nuelle’s sentinels was going to take up a large chunk of the book. I mean there were many factors to consider and six kids had to be chosen. However, the trials lasted about one or two chapters and were not that very exciting, so I was fairly disappointed.

Overall, this was a fun book. It had a great cast of characters which is always fun. The world was big and had crazy-yet-pretty-awesome magic. I did have my bumps with it, but I am looking forward to a sequel. Which I believe is happening considering the ending to book one was not an ending rather an opening into a whole new set of problems!

Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars

Recommend: Maybe you’re in the mood for something light and fun or you have a young fantasy reader around who needs a recommendation!

Let me know what you think! Have you read this? Who was your favourite character? If you could choose any of the elements to be in control of, what would you choose?

Happy reading!

Holiday Goals! |A Reading List & A Sneak Peek At Something *Special*

Greetings readers!

I really found no point in doing a November Wrap-Up, since I literally crossed nothing off that list and to do a December TBR was also really pointless since the month is almost over….so I created a HOLIDAY TBR! Which is a mash-up of December and January goals!

Who knows if I will actually achieve them…but I am really hoping to do a lot of reading and blogging these next two weeks!

Let’s Get Into It!

Holiday TBR

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Renegades IG

This one is obvious. I have been waiting to pick it up since it came to my door step, but I set it aside so I could really enjoy it! I know there have been some mixed reviews around it, but I’m keeping the most open mind as possible. This is, after all, a book by my Queen.

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo

A) I haven’t read it and I have had it since AUGUST! B) Batman: Nightwalker by Marie Lu comes out this January and even though I don’t need to read WW:W before I read this, I am a stickler for reading things in order!

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

I have had this book for too long to not pick it up… I really need to get to it!

Last Star Burning by Caitlin Sangster

It’s a signed ARC that I won in a Haiku contest which really had nothing to do with the book, but the synopsis sounds really cool so I want to read it. Plus the cover is winter-y and it’s winter…so it’s fitting.

The ACOTAR series by Sarah J. Maas

I’m really not in the mood to read SJM, but I should. It’s not mandatory on my list, perhaps just the first book to simply get it out of the way….because those other books take priority!

I also have some review books that I need to get through that I am super excited for!!!!

Between the Blade and the Heart by Amanda Hocking

This is the first Blog Tour I will be participating in! I’m very excited. The book sounds incredible and I hope I really enjoy it! You can catch my post on January 3rd so be sure to watch this space!!!

S.T.A.G.S by M.A. Bennett

This sounds incredibly intense and suspenseful and I am all for this!!!!!!

The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw

Hocus Pocus meets Practical Magic meets the Salem Witch trials.
Y.E.S. I. A.M. R.E.A.D.Y. F.O.R. T.H.I.S.  I am so lucky I got my hands on an ARC, I have high hopes for this! High hopes!!

Captain Guinevere by Clara Bennet

Captain Guinevere
via Goodreads

I have also had a hold of this one for a while. It sounds very cool, it’s short and I cannot wait to read it!

Some Other Holiday Things….

I have been up to some stuff since the summer! Some artsy stuff. That has to do with my favourite fandoms. Like The Lunar Chronicles and The Beautiful Ones. I also have some plans for Six of Crows, Tower of Dawn, The Winner’s Trilogy and An Ember in the Ashes!

I have already started some TLC and Beautiful Ones work done! I cannot wait too show you the finished products. But for now he is a little teaser….

Can you guess who???

And here is one for The Beautiful Ones

Eeeekk! I’m excited!

Hopefully I get a few done in these next two weeks to show them off!!

Let me know what you think? What do you have planned for this Holiday season? Any special reads? Have you ever done some special for your favourite fandoms?

Happy reading!
